Rottnest Peak Season Booking Windows Explained (Live List)

Short answer: during peak periods (like the December–January school holidays), Rottnest Island accommodation isn’t sold by free date selection. StayRottnest only offers fixed arrival/departure windows that differ per accommodation area — if the booking calendar won’t accept your exact dates, that’s why. Below is a live list of the currently advertised windows and whether each still has rooms.

How the fixed windows work

To manage demand in the busiest weeks, the island authority pre-defines the stays that can be booked: a set arrival day, a set departure day, and therefore a set number of nights. Each accommodation area (for example Geordie Bay, Longreach Bay, or the campground) is advertised with its own windows, so the combinations available for a cabin may differ from those for a heritage bungalow a few bays over. Outside peak periods, normal free date selection applies.

This catches a lot of people out: the StayRottnest calendar appears to “refuse” certain dates in December and January, when really it’s only offering the advertised windows. You can’t shorten, extend, or shift a window — you book it as advertised, or not at all.

Peak windows usually sell out on release day — Rottnest inventory opens up to 9 months ahead on monthly Open Days, and summer goes first.
